All of my images are original limited edition prints produced by hand. What this means, and how it differs from reproduction prints, is explained below.
Original Limited Edition Prints
These images are produced by hand to a set number as specified on the prints themselves. A print which, for instance, is labelled 7/22 comes from an edition of twenty two hand produced originals, this specific print being number seven in the print series. All prints are created by the artist/printmaker using specialist print-making techniques such as lino printing, screen printing or etching. After a ‘reduction linocut’ run is complete there is usually little left of the original block; it is impossible to go back and print more copies using the same piece of lino!
As the name suggests a reproduction print is a copy of an original that has been mechanically produced. There may be only a few copies made but the print run could go into hundreds, or even thousands, of copies. Giclee prints fall in to this category – at the touch of a button, paintings or original prints are digitally reproduced on inkjet printers usually to a high standard on good quality paper. Notwithstanding this, it must be remembered that prints of this nature are reproductions. Price is not always a convincing factor – some Giclee prints are sold at relatively high prices.
